China has agreed to share hydrological data with countries in the lower basin says the Mekong River Commission (MRC), days before a high-level summit takes place in Hua Hin to discuss river management issues.

Saturday, March 14, is the International Day of Action for Rivers. As the Mekong suffers its worst drought in decades, painfully demonstrating the importance of the river to the region’s people, and revived plans to build dams on the mainstream threaten the river’s ecology and resources, this is a day to reflect upon the life-giving benefits that rivers provide, and to take action to protect the Mekong River for present and future generations.

The 4^th VRN annual meeting was successfully held on 28^th and 29^th December, 2009 in Do Son, Hai Phong with more than 60 attendees.

Douhe Power Plant is located in Kaiping district of Tangshan City, Hebei Province. Douhe Power Plant was estabilshed in December 1973, and its projects, were divided into four phases. All 8 generating units were completed and put into operation on October 8th,1987 with total installed capacity of 1550MW comprising two 125MW units, two 250MW units and four 200MW units. Dou He Power Plant was named as the "First Class coal-fired Power Plant" by the State Power Corporation in 1998. Power generated by Dou He Power Plant is supplied to the Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan Power Grid via fourteen 220 kV transmission lines

HOA BINH, December 8, 2009

On 7^th and 8^th November 2009, a training workshop on suggestions of the World Commission on Dams (WCD) was held by the Vietnam River Network (VRN) under ENABLE project sponsored by CARE International in Vietnam. It was organized in Hoa Binh, where the currently largest dam in Vietnam locates.
